well , this is our second adventure trip, it's our first camping one, and the kid's first time camping . oh has it been eventful, but don't worry their doing good! On the first and third nights camping it was literally at a couple of places out in the bush, no running water or bathrooms they handled it great! The first night we stopped in echuka, it's known as the a big steam boat location on the Murray river. we slept maybe 10 meters off the river bank, so eyes on rohan was constant and everything takes extra long anyways to cook on the little gas stove, prepare, clean, set up camp and bedding so it's at least noon before we get on the road again ,and it and takes a good 2-3 hours to set up camp each time , and before it gets dark. but we enjoyed bush walks ,and watching the boats . the second night we cooked dinner at a local day park's electric grill then raced the dark to set up camp in tallengata, since it was the start of the mountains it was getting dark quicker ,it was a really enjoyable little town with a lake that has already caused the town to move once but quiet and quaint.we set up camp at a show grounds and were so grateful for running water and other campers, well caravaners. Monday night was the start of feverish kids at night and an ear infection or ache for me. Explosive runs for squidge while traveling,oh joy! But we knew it would pass in a day or two it being what rohan had. and they would be fine with Tylenol in a day or two. we reevaluated each day to cut it short or keep going .and since no one wanted to head home we kept going. that day we saw waterfalls, beautiful mountains, and river creeks to play in saw wild echidna, a few emu's one close to our tent, and a baby Joey and it's mum. we didn't appreciate the dew soped beds but it was the favorite of our spots so far. Wednesday we headed up into the Alpine Mountain and took about 2 to 3 hours on dirt/ gravel, steep curvy, mountain roads, without guard rails but at least they were wide. somewhat terrifying to me but Dave's favorite part with some amazing views. It was a back road to the old minning town in the high plains called Omeo, and as it was time for an indoor night or 2 as it ended up. we found a 2 room cabin and just in time for the rain. And heavy fog to settle in over the mountains but at least they were clear to see our first day there. So far in Omeo the kids favorite part was panning for gold Over, and over , and of course every rock was gold to the kids, they were sure of it, they could each take a couple back. And of course me getting chased by a grazing sheep who got ticked at me for rising him along in the can a little. So when I stepped out of the van with the laundry he decided to chase me from the van to the stairs.:-) we woke up the next morning to the electricity being out for lots of towns and we were low on gas but it worked out , the rest of the destinations we had planned for this run got postponed due to the next 4 days in those locations being due for rain and since that didn't sound like too much fun we headed home for a couple days to dump some unneeded gear and redirect our trip to a non wet, non packed from school holiday location. It's Bern so good and fulfilling this week, and Dave's years and years put into Queen scouts ( the equivalent of of our eagle scouts) have come in super handy this week. Well home for the night, time to rest.. We will post pics soon.
